Good afternoon traders.

Last week US and European markets saw modest losses over concerns about slowing global demand. This derived from the concerns over a lack of demand in the Chinese economy while sentiment hasn’t helped also by the political theatre around the US debt ceiling. The BOE (Bank of England) delivered a hawkish hike of 0.25% bringing the official bank rate at 4.50%.

This week there are no major central banks monetary decisions however we will have the latest market readings from Australia and U.K as well as more data from China. On a packed Tuesday, we note the release of China’s industrial output and retail sales for April, Germany’s ZEW indicators for May and UK’s employment data for March. On Wednesday, we get the release of Japan’s preliminary GDP rate and Eurozone’s CPI for April. Australia will release its unemployment data on Thursday whilst in the US we will get the weekly initial jobless claims figure and the Philly Fed business index for May. Finally on Friday We have news from Japan (National Core CPI), Canada (Core Retail Sales) and Eurozone (German PPI).
